Local varieties are indispensable and imperative to be re-introduced to current agricultural practice as well as people's diet.

The main reason iis that products from local varieties are delicious, have high quality characteristics and are an integral part of our agriculturalal and culinary culture over time of our people.

In addition, they are an answer to genetic erosion and climate change.  Because of their adaptability to the soil-climatic characteristics they consist a powerful tool for the transition from conventional energy-intensive agriculture to sustainable, ecological agriculture.

Through participatory processes within AEGILOPS' network, traditional varieties of cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables and aromatic plants are preserved and those suitable for organic cultivation are being selected.

Today AEGILOPS' Farmers Group produces a wide variety of quality products from traditional varieties, selections and famers' seeds from all over Greece.
